Hi, I’m Jackie, a highly experienced (ex-Registrar), award-winning, qualified and insured Celebrant and I absolutely love celebrating love!
Based near York, I cover all God’s Own Country of Yorkshire and some neighbouring areas. I truly engage with you to design and write either a bespoke wedding, handfasting, blessing, elopement, commitment or vow renewal ceremony which is meaningful and deeply personal.
Describing myself as a dreamcatcher, I can help bring your ceremony vision to life. There are no rules on the ceremony content, so it truly reflects your personalities and values (for instance, I’m not a Humanist, so am comfortable with religious content it that’s important to you). Freed from the restrictions of using only licensed spaces, I can perform your celebration anywhere, indoors or outside, at any time of day, for any size of gathering.
Included in my fee is a dressed down walkthrough rehearsal at the venue, so when you walk down the aisle, forget ‘rabbit it in the headlights’ – think, ‘I’ve got this!’ Forget stern, stressed officiant – waiting for you will be the smiling, reassuring face of your known, trusted Celebrant, to melt away those nerves.
I’m fascinated by your story to your ‘I Do’ day, what makes you tick as a couple and your hopes for your onward journey together. We can ‘set the scene’ for your wedding or vow renewal by telling a little of your love story so far. This can include funny anecdotes, challenges overcome together, with giggles and happy tears before moving to the dignified and deeply personal exchange of rings and vows.
I have heaps of ideas for content to personalise your celebration, but am thrilled if you’re ‘hands-on’ in the writing of the script and bring your own ideas to the design process. We craft a ceremony that captures the essence of you as a couple, but most importantly, helps you yo find the perfect way to put your feelings into words as you make your promises to commit to do life together, side by side.

This is a big area of frustration for Independent Celebrants like myself, because as the law currently stands, we cannot perform a legally binding marriage. Hopefully, reforms in consultation will change this one day. As a former Registrar, I can guide you on how to complete the legalities at minimal cost and fuss (usually at your local Register Office with just 2 witnesses, no exchange of rings or name change, costing approx £60) That frees you up to have a full-blown wedding with all the bells and whistles (or an intimate one), exchange rings, say personal vows and be announced as newlyweds! I don’t need to make any reference in the ceremony to you already being legally married. Alternatively, I can support you to have both their legal marriage and wedding celebration ceremony on the same day, in the same venue.
This is a common worry which I find most rewarding to successfully support couples to overcome. I want you to feel as much at ease as possible. You can read your vows yourself, or repeat them after me just a few words at a time, or simply say “I do” in response to a question – whatever you’re most comfortable with. I invariably find that the rehearsal builds confidence, as can saying words you’ve chosen yourself. You can compose your own vows or adapt wording from research. Vows can be as sweet, silly or sentimental as you want, so that often helps . You’ll have email contact with me throughout the process for help if you need it and I have many vows examples to inspire you!
For all weddings, renewal of vows and commitment ceremonies I like to meet you both soon after your initial enquiry. This enables us to get to know one any other a little, to discuss your requirements and for me to listen carefully to your vision for a perfect ceremony. This genuinely no-obligation meeting in a quiet corner of a pub or coffee shop lets you see the real person behind the business, to help you decide if I’m the Celebrant for you. If distance means we can’t meet in person, we’ll chat online instead.
